Gratz, Pennsylvania
ARM completed a wind energy feasibility study to assess the viability of siting a small-scale wind energy installation to supply electricity to the Housing Authority of Dauphin County’s Gratz Park Terrace Apartments located in Gratz, Pennsylvania. ARM performed an environmental due diligence evaluation to assess potential impacts to environmental resources and wetlands. The initial feasibility study was completed in December 2009, and the project has progressed to a wind resource assessment at the site to evaluate the annual average wind speed. ARM acquired zoning approval for the installation of a 34-meter meteorological (met) tower. Assuming the wind resource assessment indicates that the wind speeds at the site are suitable for the proposed wind energy project, ARM will provide final design engineering and permitting services. As part of the feasibility study, ARM engineers and scientists completed the following project tasks:
· Site Suitability Assessment
· Wind Resource Assessment
· Preliminary Energy Production Estimate
· Interconnection Viability
· Environmental Due Diligence
· Engineering Feasibility Assessment
· Potential Fatal Flaws and Key Assumptions
Based upon the analyses performed as part of this feasibility study, ARM determined that a small-scale wind energy system would be technically feasible for the project site. The energy production estimate indicates that the Endurance Wind Power E-3120 with a 120- or 140-foot hub height should meet or exceed the energy production goals for the project.
